    Description

For sale is a large and vintage souvenir building metal replica of
    Il
    Duomo
in Florence, Italy [La Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore], perhaps the most salient features of which are Brunelleschi's Dome and Giotto's Campanile.
    Compare # 2038, in
    Replica Buildings: A Visual History
    (Merwine) and # 439 in
    Monumental Miniatures
to see two models that appear identical, but of much more recent casting.
I would date this one to mid-century or earlier.
It has a dark bronze finish (likely originally copper) with an aged patina.
    It measures 3 3/4" tall
by 5" front to back and 3 1/8" wide across the apse.
Giotto's tower which was cast separately is 3 3/4" to its intact tip.
The front reads: FIRENZE, its left side: RICORDO.
Its condition is good to very good, with age related wear.
Let me point out that there is a small pin hole hardly noticeable on the left side -- see photo.
    The long line visible is
    not
a crack but is in the casting.
Also, the break between the nave and the transept/apse is also
    not
a crack but the result I'm assuming of the two parts having been cast separately.
The bottom is covered by a green
    felt protective pad.
Shipping includes insurance and signature tracking (to minimize the
    possibility
    of loss to 'porch pirates').
